Stories of the Moose
Moose Gets Into Everyone Else's Dorm Rooms
Cat escapes into other apartment in the wee hours of the morning.
The dorms on my college campus were laid out a little funny. From the outside, they reminded everyone of the Pizza Hut logo. No windows, just a single door on each of the four sides would let you into a hallway. There were two rooms downstairs, and two upstairs. Another door in the hallway would lead you to the courtyard. Each apartment had one skinny window that opened into this courtyard.
Although we were not allowed to have pets, a lot of the campus cats would find a kind soul and let them into the courtyards or apartments. The cats liked having the option of spending the day inside the air-conditioned rooms or at night in someone's warm bed.
I always let Moose in whenever she liked. I usually kept the skinny window open when I was home and the weather was nice. I also kept the window open during the night to let in a little air. Thing is, Moose would often escape during the night into the courtyard. If any of the ground-floor apartments kept their windows open as well, rest assured she'd pop in for a visit. No one ever really complained about the Moose too much. I don't know if they were just being ultra-polite or they really didn't mind. I'd usually hear a window slam shut, the door to the courtyard opening, and Moose being plopped down with a few mumbled words. But, every once in a while, I'd hear a "Dammit, Moose! Get the Hell out of here" sometime in the middle of the night. She'd either go find another apartment to sneak into or come climbing back into my room for the night. She'd sit down on the bed and I'd say "Did you make some new friends?" She'd reply, "Yes, but they had terrible manners and failed to worship me. So I came back home."
