Stories of the Moose

Moose Joins Me On Campus Feeding Duties

Followed me all over campus to feed the "lesser" cats.

Once a day, usually between classes, I trudged all over campus to feed the resident cats. We had about a half-dozen feeding stations set up with bowls, and I would carry a container of dry cat food with me. The feeding took about an hour, mostly due to the time spent with the more social cats at each station, but I could make the rounds in 30 minutes if I was in a hurry.

Feeding time was always a show-stopper. A shake of the cat food container and the once-invisible cats materialized from thin air. Very few people knew my name, but damn near everyone had seen the weird cat-food-boy and the tribe of cats he attracted.

Moose was very keen on following me everywhere: on the way to class, on the back from class, checking my mail, and seeing me off to work in the evening. On a few occasions, Moose would follow me on my feeding rounds. I'm not certain to this day if she was just happy to be with me, if she wanted the exercise, if she wanted to tour her kingdom, or if she was keeping an eye on me. You know, to make sure I wasn't having an affair with one of these "lesser" cat floozies. She could be so jealous at times.
